The Food & Nutrition (F&N) Group is based in a state of the art research facility located in Scottsdale, Tasmania. It is part of Land Division within the Defence Science and Technology Group. The Group Leader F&N will lead a team of scientists, engineers and technicians who support Defence in defining and delivering fit for purpose feeding solutions to its military personnel. In particular, they apply Food and Nutrition sciences to the design, integration and optimisation of the ADF’s combat rations and fresh feeding systems. The F&N Group is one of three elements of a larger Land Human Science research branch that contains a wide range of expertise, including nutrition, food technology, cognitive psychology, exercise physiology, injury mechanisms and ergonomics.
The Group Leader F&N reports to the Research Leader, Land Human Systems. They will have a national or international reputation in the field of food science, nutrition or a related scientific discipline. In addition, they will have considerable experience, awareness and knowledge across a range of Science and Technology (S&T) applied to Defence. They will forecast future Defence problems, initiate research and generate new knowledge to deliver enhanced Defence capability. They will be able to select the best scientific method to achieve Defence outcomes, and to review the S&T quality of reports and publications prepared by the team. They will be responsible for establishing a motivated and collaborative culture within the group and manage resources to achieve task milestones and deliverables.
